Downey, Sweeney, Fitzgerald & Co., P.C. traces its origins back to 1950 and is a local firm of accountants, auditors and consultants that services organizations throughout New England.  Our strength is the quality of our personnel and our diverse clientele. 

We specialize in accounting, auditing and tax planning and preparation services for closely held businesses and not-for-profit organizations.  We are dedicated to providing each of our clients with close personal attention.  We have an ongoing commitment to invest our resources in continuing professional education to keep our staff up to date on the latest tax and audit issues to provide our clients with the best service available.

Downey, Sweeney, Fitzgerald & Co., P.C. is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. 

Downey, Sweeney, Fitzgerald & Co., P.C. is a member of the AICPA’s Private Companies Practice Section of the Division for CPA Firms and as such, we periodi­cally undergo peer reviews of our audit and accounting practice and system of quality control.  This is a program dedicated to ensuring that participating firms have quality control systems in place over their accounting and auditing practices. 

We are also a member of the AICPA’s Government Quality Audit Center. This firm-based voluntary membership Center gives us access to the latest information and resources allowing us to meet the challenges of performing quality audits in both unique and complex areas.

Privacy Policy

CPAs, like all providers of personal financial serives, are now required by law to inform their clients of their policies regarding privacy of client information. CPAs have been and continue to be bound by professional standards of confidentiality that are even more stringent than those required by law. Therefore, we have always protected our client's right to privacy.

Types of Nonpublic Personal Information We Collect

We collect nonpublic personal information about our clients that is either provided to us by our clients or obtained by us with their authorization.

Parties to Whom We Disclose Information

For current and former clients, we do not disclose any nonpublic personal information obtained in the course of our practice except as required or permitted by law. Permitted disclosures include, for instance, providing information to our employees and, in limited situations, unrelated third parties who need to know that information to assist us in providing services to our clients. In all such situations, we stress the confidential nature of information being shared.

Protecting the Confidentiality and Security of Current and Former Client's Information

We retain records relating to professional services that we provide so that we are better able to assist our clients with their professional needs and, in some cases, to comply with professional guidelines. In order to guard our clients' nonpublic personal information, we maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with our professional standards.
